10 Tips for taking the perfect photo to submit for silhouette art for Mom:

1.  A photo taken at eye-level will work the best. Avoid taking the photo from an above angle. So Dad, if you are a lot taller than Mom, you could possibly sit on a chair or even kneel.

2.  Try to choose a background setting that is not very "busy" or cluttered. A less distracting background is best in order to establish and maintain perfect silhouette lines. If you can't get outside, try to find a hallway or wall area in your home that could be used as the background.

3.  Ladies or girls: If hair is not pulled back, make sure to tuck it behind your ear and pushed back from your face so your facial profile is captured in full.

4.  Take a moment to decide on your clothing and accessory choices for the photo. While obviously color and matching clothing do not matter for this artwork, clothing that holds a defined shape will add character and be more personalized. Consider using hats (baseball caps, cowboy hats, etc.), wearing skirts/dresses, hair styled in high ponytails or pigtails for the girls, and more. Don't be afraid to be creative!

5.  For a walking pose, have mother and child looking at each other with just their heads turned in order to be able to see their facial profile. If there is a second or more children, have them also look up at Mom.

6.  For a walking pose, if only one child, try to make sure Mom's free arm is slightly bent at the elbow in order to pull her arm away from her body just a bit. This helps create a more defined silhouette.

7.  If doing a standing pose, make sure everyone has their feet at least 6 inches apart so each of their legs has a defined silhouette. You don't want anyone to look like they only have one big leg!

8.  If posing a Mom and an infant or young toddler, consider having Mom stand sideways and lifting the child up in the air just above and out a little from her head, with Mom looking up to the child. Another option would be to have Mom sit on the ground, sideways to the camera, with her knees bent up, and then lift the child up in the air.

9.  For this Mother's Day artwork design, try to keep the tallest person toward the right side of your photo. For example, if there are 3 children, from your view of taking the photo, place 2 children on the left and the third child on the right of Mom. But don't stress too much about this as I can always "flip" the image while editing!

10.  Feel free to submit 2 photos to me, and then I will let you know which one in my opinion will work best to create your artwork. Or sometimes it may even be possible to include parts of each image to create one perfect finished image!

BONUS TIP: Have FUN when taking the photo! Doing so will make the memories even more special each time Mom looks at her finished silhouette art.
